Listal is a web based Collection Manager that allows you to list, rate, share and review your favourites - movies, TV shows, games, books, DVDs, CDs, authors, artists, actors and directors. It's in Beta form, sexy on the eye and really easy to use. You sign-up for free, login, and get smoothly prompted to create a profile and start listing.
There are lots of cool features from the standard RSS feeds to uploading pictures and videos, so personalizing your profile is a treat. However, writing reviews of your favourites, reading what other people have written and voting for reviews, are the biggest selling points, especially for budding critics, and so is the nifty way Listal encourages you to tag items and create custom lists. That means you can breakdown your collections and arrange them into meticulous groups of your own choosing – essential if you’re managing a list of say 200 games, 500 TV shows, 600 books and 900 movies. And with searches backed by Amazon UK, US and Canada, you're guaranteed to find whatever you need to add to your collections.
All of your collections are up for public viewing, the privacy option isn't live yet, but that hardly matters. Listal is the place to shop-window the favourites you love (or loathe), show off your knowledge (or otherwise) in your reviews and comments, and view how compatible you are with others.

Listal is also an effective social network with Facebook style features, and an Olympic range of members. Practically every national flag is represented in the People/members area, and the members all have opinions. Movie ratings, for example, can be scathing or laudatory, and members will either recommend or dismiss a current feature with echoing votes or comments from other members. And that's the essence of Listal. It's an extremely influential court of public opinion and the most erudite members write reviews that rival Screen International, Empire, Time Out, Bookseller et al.
Created by Tom Mascord, the Listal site is still under development. But you barely notice the bugs as you weave your way around, and Tom's presence is everywhere in Groups (boards) where he responds rapidly to queries and gives regular updates. So there’s still a very intimate feel about Listal - a big draw for those who want the kudos of being part of a 'word-of-mouth' site before it’s set to blow. A killer start-up that's highly, highly recommended. Listal's nearest rival is Delicious the Mac-OS software you download for $40. Got to 88 Miles Home on Listal or see Listal's homepage
